Day 9 - Kakadu to Mataranka 407km

Our last day in the magnificent Kakadu National Park and we now begin our journey home retracing many of our steps. We went to Bowali Visitor Centre, Nourlangie and Waradjan Cultural Centre. I loved the cultural centre and caught up on some information some of my students often share about life in the Top End and some of the bush tucker they love to eat. We headed to another favourite place of ours when we last visited 9 years ago- Mataranka, staying at the Territory Manor Motel and Caravan Park. This place was mentioned in the novel "We of the Never Never". Instead of going for a swim at the famous and tourist driven Thermal Pools, we went to the rival, and local suggested Bitter Springs for an afternoon swim. Cooked a BBQ tea with one of Joseph's forks and bedded down together after watching the return of the "Amazing Race". I think Joseph loved staying up till after 9:30. We went to sleep to the roar of the air conditioner and the piercing screams of the 4 peacocks. Had to pray for Elijah as he was again,"A little freaked out".

Took a photo here 9 years ago with Kurtis. This is at the Gagudju Holiday Inn- this is the Crocodile shaped hotel.
Joseph taking the Ranger's troopie for spin.

Nourlangie- Spectacular.

Leave him alone Belinda, it's only a 50m drop.

Doing a touch of rock climbing with the boys.

We didn't make it.

This is Nabulwinjbulwinj. He is a dangerous spirit who eats females after hitting them over the head with a yam.

Living Room, Lounge Room and Kitchen.

Belinda beside one of the small termite or ant mounds. We argued over this endlessly in the car whether these were termites or ants.

Tranquil Bitter Springs.

Another packed tourist spot.
